A Brief History of the Political Science Department

Based on RI Presidential Decree No. 68 of 1983, the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Hasanuddin University returned to being an independent faculty, after merging with the Faculty of Economics and the Faculty of Letters in one faculty, namely FISBUD.

The departments being developed at that time were Administrative Sciences, Sociology and Politics and Government. In subsequent developments, this increased further with the integration of the Anthropology Department from the Faculty of Letters into the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, and the MKDU Department which was then managed at the university level. To date, the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences consists of 7 departments, namely the Department of Political Science, Department of Government Studies, Department of Public Administration, Department of Communication Sciences, Department of Sociology, Department of International Relations, and Department of Anthropology.

The Bachelor of Political Science Study Program is one of the study programs under the Department of Political Science. The Undergraduate Political Science Study Program has been accredited “Excellent” based on Certificate Number: (BAN-PT No. 2954/SK/BAN-PT/Ak.Ppj/S/VII/2023) which is valid from 2 August 2023 to 2 August 2028 . The Political Science Undergraduate Study Program has also been internationally accredited AUN-QA No. AP597UNHASFEB21 2021-2025.

The scientific family of political science at the national and international levels is the scientific parent of several sub-studies. According to The Oxford Handbook of Political Science, Political Science consists of 10 main sub-studies, namely: Political Theory, Political Methodology, Contextual Political Analysis, Comparative Politics. ), Public Policy, Political Behavior, Political Economy, Political Institutions, Law and Politics and International Relations. Thus, Political Science continues to develop along with the development of contemporary science.

In a period of nearly four decades, the Political Science Undergraduate Study Program has experienced many developments. Currently, there are 13 permanent study program lecturers. Overall, there are 3 permanent lecturers in the Bachelor of Political Science Study Program who have functional qualifications for the position of Professor, 2 Head Lectors, 4 Lectors, and 4 Expert Assistants. Judging from educational qualifications, of the 13 permanent lecturers, 8 of them have doctoral degrees and 5 have master’s degrees (2 of them are currently studying doctoral degrees). Lecturers in the Undergraduate Political Science Study Program are divided into several expertise groups: Political Ethics, Policy Studies, Islamic Politics, Local Politics, Political Sociology, Identity Politics, Political Communication, Ethnic Politics, Democratic Studies, Gender Politics, Party Systems and Conflict Management .

Currently, the Department of Political Science is a research incubation center for lecturers and students, and collaborates with various parties to develop institutional capacity and respond to public problems, including: General Election Commission, Election Supervisory Body, Election Organizer Honorary Council, International Political Science Association (IPSA) , the Indonesian Political Science Association (AIPI), the Association of Political Science Undergraduate Study Programs (APSIPOL), the leading Political Science Undergraduate Study Program in Indonesia and district/city regional governments in Indonesia.
